😵‍💫 If you feel like you are always distracting your dog from triggers, you are not alone.

🐶 Here is the truth. Sometimes distraction is exactly what you need to do. Life happens, and we are not always in a position to train through something. If your dog is over threshold or the situation is too overwhelming, distraction helps you manage the moment and keep your dog feeling successful.

✅ That is smart management, not a failure. You are setting your dog up to succeed instead of letting them practice the behavior you do not want.

🎯 But distraction is a management tool, not a training plan. The goal is to work through it so your dog can handle those situations with confidence instead of needing to be pulled away every time.

🧠 Start by finding a distance where your dog can notice the trigger but still check in with you. Reward that check in generously. Over time, you can move closer as your dog builds confidence. Eventually, the trigger becomes a non event, and you can keep that behavior strong with verbal praise and occasional rewards.

Dry indoor heat can make our Cavaliers look a little frazzled this time of year. I love using a light, natural spray to bring back softness and help the coat glide when I brush Stewart.

Here is the simple mix that has worked so well for us.
🍎 How I make the leave in shine spray
🧴 Mix 1 part 4 Legger RESTORE Organic Apple Cider Vinegar Conditioning Rinse with 6 parts distilled water in a small spray bottle
🪶 Lightly mist over the coat before brushing
💧 It adds shine, helps with tangles, and supports healthy skin

🌈 Angel Dexter taught me so much about Chiari malformation and syringomyelia during our fifteen years together. What started as confusing symptoms turned into a journey of learning everything I could about CM/SM to give him the best quality of life possible.

🩺 I wrote this blog post to share what worked for Dexter, from acupuncture and cold laser therapy to food therapy and hydrotherapy. It covers symptoms to watch for, diagnosis, treatment options (both medical and natural), and the comfort measures that made his days happier.

💙 Dexter was thriving. His story shows that a CM/SM diagnosis doesn't mean the end of a happy life. With the right support and care, our Cavaliers can still have adventures, enrichment, and joy.

🌊 We went to the Indiana Dunes. Dexter's favorite place. That lake, those smells, all those feathers scattered along the shore. He was in his element. I can still see him bobbling along the water's edge with his nose to the ground, so focused and happy.

🎂 I had 15 years with him. Every single birthday, I sang the song and always added "and 20 more" at the end. I meant it every time.

💚 I was so lucky to have him. He taught me patience, showed me what unconditional love looks like, and reminded me to pause and enjoy the little things. Like feathers on a beach. Like the wind off the lake. Like just being together.
